The Leaf is a solid car with good carrying capacity for 4 adults. The Leaf has an 85 mile range and can recharge in 12 hrs using 220 volt power. The local dealer offers a free "supercharge" in 1 hr (pic below at recharging station). My friend who just bought the Leaf capitalized on several subsidies: state, federal and dealer. He brought the price down from $32K to $13K, a stunning savings. I would love to see Wisconsin offer similar subsidies (one can only hope). I saw several Leaf's in Colorado so the movement is growing. Boulder has always been progressive with energy policy and it was fun to have an "all electric" transportation day on my visit.
On a recent vacation to Boulder, CO I had the unique experience of riding BOTH an electric assisted bike and as a passenger in an all electric car the "Leaf". Both rides were incredibly fun and "green" which I love. Xtracycle (pictured above) was like a go cart ride with a magical push whenever you had a slight incline. The owner of the bike could load 2 small children and several bags of groceries. The bike can carry 150 lbs and has a 40 mile range. The climate in CO is ideal to ride an electric bike for 10 months a year. More info here at www.extracycle.com.
